Ince & Co is one of the oldest international law firms. The firm’s London office opened in 1870.

Today we have 11 offices worldwide. Our international expansion began in 1979 when the firm opened an office in Hong Kong. Since then we have opened in Singapore (1991), Piraeus (1993), Shanghai (2000), Hamburg (2001), Le Havre (2002), Paris (2002), Dubai (2006), Monaco (2011) and Beijing (2012).

In March 2011, Ince & Co Singapore entered into a Formal Law Alliance, the Ince Law Alliance, with local law practice Incisive Law LLC. Members of Incisive Law LLC provide Singapore law advice and represent clients in both the Singapore Courts and in domestic and international arbitrations.

A brief History of Ince & Co dating from 1866 to 1996, tells a story of the succession of truly remarkable individuals who made up the partners and staff, many of whom have made their own characteristic mark, and who helped the firm to grow and thrive.

Recent history

In 2000, insurance & reinsurance partner Peter Rogan became Senior Partner. He led the firm’s international expansion, opening new offices across Europe and the Middle East - in Hamburg, Le Havre, Paris and Dubai.

Peter has been involved in many of the major insurance and reinsurance market issues over the years. He was recently named Global Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyer of the Year in the 2012 Who’s Who Legal Awards.

In 2008, admiralty partner James Wilsonan accredited mediator who is actively involved in the Maritime Solicitors’ Mediation Service, was elected Senior Partner. James has continued to expand the firm internationally, opening new offices in Monaco and Beijing - Ince is one of the first English maritime law firms to open a third Greater China office.

James is recognised as one of the world’s foremost maritime lawyers and has advised shipowners and their insurers in some of the world’s highest profile marine casualties in the past two decades. He is also a board member of Maritime London.
