UPDATED: They’re back… More pain, more gain
Monday 20 April, 2009

It nearly didn’t happen. By Friday night, unseasonably severe storms were sweeping across the route of the 2009 Houston to Austin ride, overwhelming drains and rising above the fenders of cars in some towns.

Saturday’s leg to La Grange was cancelled in the interests of safety. But Sunday dawned bright and clear.

On 19th April, 11,000 cyclists made their way to a rolling start at La Grange, and on to Austin through hot sun and strong headwinds, “bright reflections” (in the words of the Lone Star Chapter) “of our shared dedication and intense commitment to do whatever we can to mobilize in the movement toward a cure for MS”.

Fourth time veterans Jeremy Farr and Charles Lockwood achieved personal bests for the Sunday stage, with David “Gel Seat” Steward not too far behind.
