Reminder - Stamp Duty Land Tax

From 6 April 2011, the rate of SDLT payable on residential property with a purchase price of more than £1 million increases from 4% to 5%. Legislation has not been published, but we expect that this increase will follow the same general rules as for lower thresholds. That is, if the purchase price for the property exceeds £1 million, the whole of the price is liable to SDLT at 5%, and not just the excess over £1 million.
