Ben graduated with a modern history degree before turning to the law. He became a partner in 2002 and specialises in contentious insurance work and commercial disputes. 

Ben lectures regularly on various matters, including alternative dispute resolution. He also co-ordinates some of the firm’s corporate social responsibility activities and is a governor of a local school.

Ben has acted in a variety of commercial disputes mostly connected to the acquisition of businesses. Many have involved issues between shareholders or sale and purchase issues, often arising from contested warranties. Notable sale and purchase disputes have arisen from the acquisition of a shipyard and the sale of a Lloyd’s agency.

In addition, Ben recently acted in a variety of cases where fraud has been alleged, including payments of secret profit. The majority of Ben’s work has been in Court, but he has regularly used ADR as a means of settling disputes.

In recent years he has been involved in some large cases which have settled after several weeks in trial.

Ben acts for insurers, insureds and brokers in a variety of insurance disputes. He has experience of professional indemnity work in relation to lawyers, insurance brokers and ship surveyors.

He also has political risk, reinsurance and marine insurance expertise, having dealt with a range of claims involving different subject matter and varying values. Ben has also advised on general policy and liability issues.

Ben lectures on both political risk and reinsurance.
