Alan’s expertise in the insurance market covers the broad spectrum, including all classes of non-life insurance and reinsurance, from political risk and marine to motor, together with insurance professional’s PI exposures.
Outside the contentious field, his practice also includes a high proportion of:
- opinion work, particularly on coverage interpretations
- claim, policy or programme analysis and drafting
- sensitive issues including fraud and new markets.
Alan speaks and publishes outside the firm on insurance legal issues such as the Law Commissions' proposed law reforms (QC’s feedback: “witty, erudite, beautifully constructed and delivered”) and for market clients (client feedback: “superb; the best ever explanation”).
Alan is experienced in commercial disputes specialising in fraud, ancillary trust and fiduciary questions. His past cases have led to the conviction of an insurer (embezzlement), two brokers (forgery) and one insurance buyer for murder following a failed fraud.
He also conducts cross-examinations (witness feedback: “I preferred Gordon Pollock QC”).
Recently Alan successfully advised market clients in the first case to address and resolve an uncertainty surrounding the effect of brokers’ fraud in reinsurance.
Alan is Ince & Co's fraud group co-ordinator, which encompasses all our contentious business practices.
