Jan is a partner of Ince & Co and practices in our Hamburg Office. He heads the Hamburg shipping and energy transaction team.

Jan and his team are in particular assisting in any matters relating to the shipping industry, including matters in respect of commercial vessels, yachts, containers, port facilities, port and ship equipment, oil rigs and off-shore equipment as well as power plants and other energy facilities.

Jan holds degrees in law and industrial engineering. His doctoral thesis in law dealt with ship mortgages and mortgage interest insurance. His diploma thesis in industrial engineering had as its subject letters of credit and bills of lading.

The scope of transactions Jan has been involved in range from corporate matters in respect of marine/shipping, insurance and energy to maritime and energy-related financing and investment transactions.

Jan’s corporate practice, in particular, includes maritime M&A transactions, joint ventures and off-shore set-ups as well as marine and energy-related asset and share deals. He also advises on marine and energy-related investment projects including German KG fund projects as well as corporate bonds.

His finance practice includes corporate and asset financing in respect in maritime and energy transactions well as trade finance transactions and leasing matters. Ship financing is one of his core areas in his practice.

Jan further advises on debt restructurings as well as on workout and loan enforcement matters. His expertise also includes shipbuilding and construction, ship sale and purchase and ship management matters and Jan is giving general advice to shipping companies.

Jan represents leading domestic and international banks, shipping companies, ship and pool managers, insurance, leasing and energy companies as well as German KG investment houses and financial arrangers.

Apart from being a German qualified lawyer practicing in Germany, Jan is entitled to practice as a registered foreign lawyer in England and Wales.

Jan is also a qualified economic engineer.Jan has recently advised Hapag-LLoyd in their financial restructuring and a international banking consortium in a multi-million loan enforcement.
