The majority of Joe's caseload is insurance-based, primarily focussed on advising insurers in relation to coverage issues and disputed claims arising in the marine and energy sectors. His extensive experience in marine insurance spans hull & machinery, builders' risks, cargo, loss of hire and marine liabilities and Joe's expertise has been noted:

In the onshore and offshore energy sectors, he has been instructed in relation to claims arising under oil major package policies, Contractors' All Risks (CAR) policies and Business Interruption (BI) covers.
Joe has a specialist international trade practice. He acts for traders and banks as well as end-users, the latter primarily engaged in the power generation industry. As such, he has particular expertise in fossil fuels and bio fuels. The Legal 500 guide describes him as a “notable member” of Ince & Co’s international trade and commodities team.
Joe has extensive experience of maritime law, particularly in the field of dry shipping, including charterparty disputes.
