Katherine acts for underwriters and brokers in the insurance and reinsurance field. Her cases are a mix of both Court and arbitration, using ADR to settle them. She works particularly on marine and non-marine insurance and reinsurance cases, political risk and brokers negligence cases. She has been involved in a number of cases over the years involving fraud and has dealt with matters such as jurisdiction, policy coverage, aggregation, avoidance and construction of contract wordings.
Her recent successful insurance Court cases include Kamidian v Holt, in which she acted for underwriters in avoiding a fine art insurance policy on the grounds of misrepresentation and non-disclosure. At the beginning of 2012, she also won a large reinsurance arbitration proceeding, having settled such a case at the end of 2010.
Katherine acts for commercial clients in general contractual and tortious disputes. Recent general commercial Court cases in which Katherine was involved include Biffa Waste Services Limited & Others v Maschinenfabrik & Others, where she acted for a contractor in successfully defending contractual and tortious claims for damage caused by a fire at a recycling plant.
Throughout her time at Ince & Co LLP, Katherine has been involved in a number of cases alleging fraud. Between 2008 and 2010, she was involved in a large Court case known as the Novoship litigation, where secret profits were alleged.
She also works on actions to recover debts, which are particularly poignant in the current economic climate, and in 2011 made another successful recovery in the case of K-Telecom CJSC v AuroraTel Ltd.
