Max acts for some of the world’s leading shipowners, charterers and their insurers. He specialises in dry shipping work, including charterparty, bill of lading, cargo and letter of credit disputes and often advises on the impact of casualties at sea, including general average and salvage claims.
He has a broad experience both arresting ships and securing their release, in addition to obtaining other more complex forms of security for pending claims. Max has acted for insurers and shipowners on over a dozen total loss casualties and regularly advises on hull, cargo and P&I insurance coverage issues.
His practice is international and covers all forms of dispute resolution, from appearing in the Courts in Hong Kong to representing clients in arbitrations both in Asia and Europe.
He has an established track record in successfully conducting complex cross-border debt recovery and the enforcement of awards in the PRC.

Max acts for a number of major international iron ore, oil and bunker traders and has handled a wide range of disputes relating to their businesses.
This covers a broad spectrum of work, from drafting commercial sale and delivery contracts, to enforcing payment or advising on the problems associated with late delivery or contamination.
Max has acted on a number of high value commercial fraud investigations, in the process obtaining and defending against injunction applications and advising on shareholder disputes.
