Michelle joined Ince in 1997 and was seconded to our Hong Kong office in 2001. After returning to London in 2004 she became a partner in 2007.

Michelle is qualified in both England & Wales and Hong Kong and specialises in dispute resolution through arbitration, litigation and mediation in London, Hong Kong and other jurisdictions.

She spent a year in China and a year in Japan before obtaining her professional qualifications and speaks conversational Mandarin and Japanese. Outside of work her interests include reading, skiing, scuba diving and watching rugby.

Michelle acts for shipowners, charterers and P&I Clubs. She is familiar with all aspects of the firm’s shipping practice and has a particular focus on charterparty and bill of lading disputes. 

Michelle represents shipping clients in LMAA and ad-hoc arbitrations and also in mediations and proceedings in the High Court. She has extensive experience of dispute resolution in other jurisdictions, including Hong Kong, New York and South Africa. She co-ordinates the firm’s contacts with law firms in South Africa and our response to national and international trade sanctions including, amongst others, those against Iran, Libya and Syria. 

Michelle also has extensive experience in handling litigation arising from maritime casualties including: collisions, groundings, fires, engine failures, salvage incidents, pollution and personal injuries. Some of the casualties she has been involved in include The Cita, Safmarine Agulhas and Tasman Pioneer.
