Paul joined Ince & Co in 1979 and has been a partner since 1987. He became head of the firm’s shipping group in 2008, having previously been in charge of its dry shipping practice.

He specialises in charterparties, cargo recovery and defence, ship finance and sale and purchase. Paul is recognised for his expertise in resolving commercial disputes on behalf of his clients, representing them in both court and arbitrations.

He is highly recommended in both Chambers and Legal 500 directories.

Paul’s expertise extends to most aspects of shipping, with particular emphasis on charterparty disputes, carriage of goods by sea, sale & purchase (both contentious and non-contentious) and newbuilding contracts. He also acts frequently in errors and omissions claims for chartering and sale & purchase brokers, ship managers and shipping agents.

Paul is regularly involved in the drafting of newbuilding contracts and the resolution of disputes arising under them. He is co-author of "Sale of Ships – The Norwegian Saleform” and is a regular lecturer on his subjects.

Acting for commodity trading companies, Paul advises on all aspects of the sale and transportation of soft commodities, crude oil, refined products and gas and has dealt with numerous trade disputes ranging from contamination, shortage and late delivery claims to hedging issues. His expertise extends to trade arbitrations, including GAFTA and FOSFA.

In addition, Paul has drafted different types of sale, off-take, storage and joint venture agreements and he has advised trader clients on their corporate structures.

Paul’s broad practice has meant he is frequently involved in more general commercial contract and tort disputes on behalf of clients. These disputes are often resolved by arbitration.
