Vanessa's practice encompasses a wide array of predominantly contentious shipping matters. In acting on behalf of shipowners, charterers, P&I Clubs and hull underwriters, she focuses on charterparties, bills of lading and carriage issues, along with collisions, groundings and other casualties. Vanessa has also advised on the resolution of disputes arising from ship newbuildings and the sale of second hand tonnage.
Qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor in Quebec, Canada, Vanessa spent several years practising shipping and transportation law at a leading Canadian law firm and pleading before the Federal Court of Canada.
After completing her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Civil Law in Montreal, Canada, Vanessa studied at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, obtaining both a Master of Laws and a Doctorate (PhD) in Shipping Law. Vanessa speaks fluent French.
