WORK AT INCE / BUSINESS SERVICES / BILLING

Neil Cant, Billing Supervisor

Ince & CoI joined the firm back in 1998 as an accounts junior and have really enjoyed my 10 years at Ince. Over this period I had a few roles within the accounts team and progressed to the billing supervisor’s role within the revenue team.

The role I fulfil takes responsibility for all the London billing assisted by a team of 3. Our team is responsible for issuing all bills to clients, and ensure our monthly billing targets are met. The other side to my role is to meet with partners (currently 28) on a monthly basis to review WIP levels and encourage them to bill. It’s a challenging job but very rewarding.

In my job, good communication skills are essential. I supervise three members of staff and it’s important to have a good relationship with everyone within the firm, to achieve our billing targets a team effort is vital. Fortunately, at Ince the working environment is very open; everyone is part of the team and there’s no sense of hierarchy.

There are plenty of social opportunities, from monthly ‘Ince’ drinks to support staff nights out. The two main parties in May and at Christmas are always excellent nights and are held in Ince’s unique fashion. The wide range of sports social events are equally as enjoyable, with football, golf, cricket and sailing teams to name a few. Whether you’re accounts staff, catering staff or a partner, everyone is welcome to get involved.

Based on my own experience, if you’ve got a good attitude and you’re willing to learn and progress, then the firm will give you as much help as you need. My career is developing – the firm has supported me through several courses, from supervisory skills to presentations and will continue to do so as and when necessary.
