WORK AT INCE / BUSINESS SERVICES / HUMAN RESOURCES

Suzy Francis, HR Officer

I’ve worked at Ince for over five years now, and found I settled in really quickly. I joined the firm as Personnel Assistant, as it was known then, which involved supporting the graduate recruitment programme and vacation placement schemes. As I became more proficient in my role I was given more responsibility. I attended university law fairs as part of the graduate recruitment team, and started raising my profile within the firm.

In 2006 I was promoted to HR Officer, having already spent a couple of years studying towards the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) diploma. It was actually the firm that encouraged me to study for the qualification, and paid they for the course, which was great because it’s not cheap!

There are four of us in the team reporting to the HR Director – the HR Manager, myself and another HR Officer for the secretarial workforce, and the HR Database Administrator. My day-to-day responsibilities can be quite varied, involving all aspects of recruitment for business services and dealing with various employee relations matters. I also deal with benefit schemes such as childcare vouchers, gym membership and the ride to work scheme, which I helped implement.

We’ve got a really nice team and work well together - a sense of humour is essential. The best things about the firm are the people and the opportunities. The role I do now is very different from the role I had when I first started, and I’ve continued to take on new responsibilities and develop in the time I’ve been here. It will be interesting to see how my career progresses further over the coming years.
