“It is the practical kind of energy work that we do which appeals to me. It is often some kind of major construction or project installation work, so a lot of it is very technical and engineering-based. You’re learning about how things work, how these resources are actually taken out of the ground and the processes they go through, and then combining that with your legal expertise to sort out clients’ problems. It’s fascinating.
One of the advantages is being able to travel all over the world, and I’ve been doing that from within six months of starting here. It can go from one extreme to the other. I had a two month period last year where I spent a week in Houston and then a week in Kazakhstan, where it was -28°C, and from there I went straight to Rio, where it was the height of the Brazilian summer."
